How to add a device to Mandalay Device Manager

This article provide step by step instructions for adding a device to the Mandalay Device Manager. These steps can be used for most devices that communicate to Mandalay CS.

It is assumed that COM ports or TCP ports have already been established before running through these steps. See these instructions on how to create a TCP port for network enabled devices  for creating TCP ports.

Note: Contact Mandalay support for further details if this process does not work as expected.

Detect Hardware

Most devices can be automatically detected by the Device Manager as long as it is connected to the port selected in the next step. It is possible to add a device manually by using the second option but is an advanced option and requires understanding of the device you are connecting to.

Note: If nothing is detected the first time you can try using the Comprehensive option if this then fails then try using the second option and select the type of device and model if known.

Select the first option before clicking on the Next button to continue.

All available ports will be shown in the list presented. Ports that are currently being used by other devices in Device Manager will appear but will not be marked available. In this instance we are choosing the TCP port as the devices communication port, follow these instructions on how to create a TCP port for network enabled devices.

The Device Manager will now search the ports selected for specific device types and at various serial settings. If it can easily find a match and determine the type it will just enable the Finish button, otherwise it will prompt to select the correct device.

After the device has been selected the configuration will need to be updated, which will require the hardware layer to be restarted and will affect any device currently attached to the host.

The new device will now appear in the device list and should now be tested to confirm operation. To test the device double click on the item in the list.

Confirm Operation

If a connection is established then you should see a green triangle at the top of the screen. If not then you should trouble shoot the device to find out what is stopping the device from operating correctly.

Each type of device will have a different terminal screen, the one above is for any measurement instruments.

To confirm that the device is working correctly either use the device if its an output only device (e.g. weighbridge scale) or trigger an event (e.g. relay card) and ensure that updates are shown on the device.
