How to create a TCP port in Mandalay Device Manager

This article explains how to create a TCP port in Mandalay Device Manager for communication to network enabled hardware devices, E.G. serial hubs, scale indicators, or relay cards.

Once Device Manager has started follow the menus above to create a TCP/IP Port.

Configure Port

  1. Enter the port number that the device is configured on in the serial hub. A web configuration page available on the device may provide these details is not already know.
  2. Enter the IP address of the remote host. (it is recommended to use IP addresses rather than domain names)
  3. Set the name for the port. Follow the protocol://address:port template for the name to make it easily identified. It could also be prefixed with device type.

Update the configuration

To commit the new port the configuration must be updated. Click on the Update Config tool bar item and answer yes to all questions.

Note: This will cause the hardware layer to be restarted which will affect any device currently active through this host.

Reconnect to host

Click on the Connect to server menu option as shown above.

Enter local host if you configuring the local computer and press connect.

The new TCP Port is now active.

Note: All serial configuration like Baud Rates and Stop Bits must now be configured on the serial hub. Generally entering the IP address in a browser window will take you to the devices configuration page.
