How to Customise the System to Capture Non-Standard Data.

There may be some cases in an implementation of the Mandalay software ware the standard data fields available for a transaction are not sufficient to capture details required for transaction based on business requirements. An example of this may be that the temperature or other sample details of a load are required to be captured and then presented on the ticket.

The following steps explain how to use some rarely used fields available in mandalay to capture additional data. This example uses an obscure field called EPA Source but alternatively other fields can be altered in the same way (E.G. driver name or comments) if they are not being actively used.

Change the Terminology

Change the Terminology

Before starting to use a spare data field to capture additional data it is best to change the name of the field as it is displayed in ticketing to match what you require. Do this by going to the Terminology tab in Administration.

Locate the term to replace

Locate the term to replace

In this example we are looking for the EPA Source entry. Once located click on the Change To word and type in the new name, Temperature in this case. Click on another row to ensure the change is captured.

Change ticket templates

Change ticket templates

If you want the data to appear on the ticket then you will need to change the ticket templates. For this example we are inserting a new field for the EPA Source which is called EPA_SOURCE.

The ticket templates are located in the Ticket Templates sub directory of the folder that Mandalay CS is installed. Note: Back up this directory before making any changes.

The following templates may need to be altered tktGTN.txt, tktEach.txt and tktHotkey.

Insert the above text into the templates at the location required. The field name must be surrounded by * characters which will specify the space available for the data. The RA term at the beginning states that the data is aligned to the right hand side of the field area. The C is added to the end to represent the unit

Save the changes to the file.
