How do material types get combined for multiple product transactions?
When a transaction contains multiple material types but the same waste class or where there are multiple waste classes that have a different levy rate, the regulations require that only one line be reported. This means that only one material type can be reported in these cases. The state government does not specify how multiple material types sould be merged so the naus Regulatory System uses is own logic to determine the correct material type to use.
The following shows how each material type is merged into a parent material type and then if further merging required how the parent codes are merged.

Parent Merging
Where a transaction results in the use of parent codes and the codes aren't the same then the following logic is used to determine a code to report.
- Where a transaction has an item with a parent material type of MM and an item with a parent material type of CMR the MM material type will be reported.
- Where a transaction has an item with a parent material type of HWC (Hazardous Material Category) and an item with a parent material type of HWO the HWO material type will be reported.
- Where a transaction has an item with a parent material type of HWC and an item with a parent material type of MM the HWO material type should be reported.
