Why does Regulatory change my Waste Class to EXGEN or EXAPP

The naus Regulatory Management system is designed to transform your data to make it report-able to DES through the QWDS system. This process can include actions like rolling up the material types to one type as required to meet the levy detailed data file reporting requirements.

Another action that can occur is the have the waste class change to either the EXGEN or EXAPP class. This is required because some exemptions can come from sources other than products and there fore change a product to exempt. The following explains where this could occur.

Client Exemptions

The most common client exemption used is when a charity is setup. The exemption is required as some products can be considered exempt when delivered by a charity, but not exempt if delivered by a regular customers. To prevent you from having to setup separate products for charities that include the EXGAPP waste class the Regulatory system will ensure that all products added to the transaction that are applicable for client exemptions report as the EXAPP waste class.

Location Exemptions

It is possible to link an exemption to a location. This could be to identify material being used for onsite operational purposes or other waste separation requirements. As with the client exemption the location exemption will automatically apply to any product used in the transaction and since these products could also be used for non exempt transactions the waste class would be set to the standard classes (e.g CD, CI  or MSW). The Regulatory process will then see that an exemption is required for this transaction and adjust the waste class accordingly when reporting.

Product Exemptions

Generally if you are setting up a product as exempt you would also set the waste class to the applicable exemption class. But in cases where you forget to change the class the Regulatory system will notice that you are trying to apply an exemption and will automatically change the waste class when reporting to the applicable exemption class.
