How to control boom gates within Ticketing

Any boom gate that Mandalay CS can control automatically can also be controlled manually by an operator within the Ticketing system.

Note: The following guide is for Mandalay CS version 3.6 or lower. Any customers on 3.7 or greater should refer to this guide.

The Mandalay CS ticketing system will never force a boom gate to close. It will only ever tell a boom gate to open and then stop telling it to do so. Once it stops telling the gate to stay open the boom gate will revert to its safety systems to determine if its safe to close. This is called a Safety Close and is not something that Mandalay controls. Any issues with gates closing on vehicles should be referred to the boom gate provider.

Controlling Weighbridge Gates

Click on the Mandalay logo at the top right of the Ticketing program to reveal the boom gate control window. From here you can control any gate that is configured for this instance of Ticketing. In dual weighbridge situations you will see the boom gates for the bridge the Ticketing application is controlling.

Any gate that can be controlled will show the gate icon as orange. Clicking on the image of the gate you are controlling will change the position to the opposite position currently displayed.

Note: This screen may not reflect actual position of the boom gate and may require multiple presses of the button before actively controlling the gate. Visual confirmation of the gates should be performed.

Opening the Gate

If the button shows the gate in the Closed position then pressing the icon will Open the gate, it will then cause the gate to lock in the open position. To stop the locked state of the gate in the open position the button should be pressed again to perform a safety close.

Note: Once the button is returned to the closed position the gate will not open again unless the open button is pressed again or the manual boom gate control window is closed.

To return the system to automatic boom gate control the manual boom gate control window should be closed by pressing on the Mandalay logo again.

There is no temporary pop option for boom gate control for these gates, like there is for a bypass lane. You must close the gate once the vehicle has left or close the boom gate control window.

Closing the Gate

If the button shows the gate in the Open position then pressing the button will trigger a safety close on the boom gate and will disable the gate from being controlled by Ticketing. To open the gate again the button can be pressed to return the gate to the locked open position.

To return the system to automatic boom gate control the manual boom gate control window should be closed by pressing on the Mandalay logo again.

If the Boom Gate Control window is open while performing a transaction the window will close but will not return the control of the boom gate to ticketing. So if its locked open or disabled then the gate will remain this way until the boom gate control window is open again and then closed by pressing the Mandalay logo.

Note: You may need to press the Mandalay logo twice after a transaction to see the boom gate control window.

Control By Pass Lane Boom Gates

If you site has a by pass lane that is controlled by LPR then you will be able to control the boom gate by using the Access Control form that is available by select the Access Control option from the Ticketing system menu.

From the access control screen you can either Pop the boom gate or switch to manual control and open the boom gate permanently.
