How to install a USB Honeywell (Metrologic) Voyager 95X0 scanner

This article explains how to any of the of USB Honeywell (Metrologic) Voyager 95X0 series bar code scanners ready for use with the Mandalay Hardware Service.

Download USB Serial Emulation

Download the USB Serial Emulation driver. You can find it attached to this article. The file is called 'HSM USB Serial Driver r1.19-WHQL-03-08-2013.zip'

Install USB Serial Emulation Driver

Once the the driver has been downloaded, extract the folder in the zip file and locate the Getting Starter Guide and review the installation process for your type of Windows.

 

Note: There is a different installer for x86 or x64 versions of Windows.

Plug in the scanner

Plug in the scanner

Connect the scanner to the next available USB port.

The example above is taken from a J2 touch screen console.

Once plugged in the device driver will install and you should wait for this to occur before continuing.

This series of scanners has a comprehensive set of bar codes that can be used to configure the device. The guide for this is attached to this article ('Configuration Guide'.pdf) . Print the following pages from this guide.

  • Page 8: Recall defaults
  • Page 80: Enable Serial Emulation Mode.

Obtain virtual COM port number

Before the scanner can be added to the Mandalay hardware service the allocated COM port must be identified. To do this you will need to access Windows Device Manager, you can do this by right clicking on the My Computer icon, either on the desk top on in the start menu (Windows 7 will just say Computer). This ill then display the computer properties window and you can then do either of the following to bring up the device manager.

Windows XP - Click on the hardware tab and select device manager

Windows 7 or greater - Click on the Device Manager link in the top left of the System information screen.

Once in device manager expand the Ports (COM & LPT)  and look for Honeywell Devicet. The com port is usually shown in the device name, if you don't see it then double click on the device and go to the port settings tab. Click on the Advanced button and the COM Port Number will be shown at the bottom. Take note of this number and refer to this article for adding the scanner to the Mandalay Hardware service.
