How to set a GVM (Loaded Capacity) for a vehicle to trigger overloaded events

This document describes how to setup a vehicle in Mandalay to allow the Ticketing application to detect if the vehicle is over its Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) rating.

Note: There are no configuration changes required to activate this feature however the ticket template may need to be adjusted to show details of the event.

Vehicle Configuration

To setup a vehicle for overload detection, a vehicle configuration will need to be added to the vehicle in the Administration application on the Vehicles tab.

  1. In the Administration Application, select the Vehicles tab
  2. Select the vehicle that you want to add the GVM to from the left list
  3. Select the applicable vehicle configuration in the first row.
  4. Set the GVM for the vehicle and indicate the maximum tonnes that a vehicle can weigh when fully loaded.
  5. Click the 'Apply' button to save.

Note: You do not need to be using stored tares to use the loaded capacity.

Multiple Configurations

If a vehicle has multiple possible configurations then it is possible to set a loaded capacity for each configuration individually.

Note: When multiple configurations are set, the operator will be prompted to select the correct configuration when the vehicle is selected in the Ticketing application.

Set a Default GVM for Vehicle Configurations

It is possible to specify a default loaded capacity (GVM). This value will be used by default for any vehicle with this configuration set against the vehicle.

1. Select the "Vehicle Configurations" tab
2. Pick the configuration from the left list
3. Enter the GVM into the Loaded Capacity box
4. Click the 'Apply' button to save.

Note: The default value will be overridden when setting the loaded capacity on the Vehicle record itself.

Deemed Weight

If a site is configured to use deemed weights the loaded capacity may be used to define the GVM used in deemed weight calculations. See regulatory guides provided by Mandalay for more details on any specific usage of this method.

Overloaded Events

When an overloaded vehicle is detected, the system will prompt the operator for an event type and note. New event types can be configured in the Administration application or existing default events can be used.  Event types are set on the Events tab in Mandalay Administration

Separate events can be setup for whether vehicles are arriving or departing over the weigh bridge.  These are described below.

1. Arrival Events

Arrival Events are indicated by the "Overloaded Vehicle Arrival" type

Arrival Events

When a vehicle arrives already overloaded, the only action is to record that it was overloaded when it arrived.   This can is done by setting the Event Level as 'Warning' or' Information'.   A setting to require a note can also be activated by ticking the "Note Required" box, this is optional.

2. Departure Events

In your state/region, it may be a legal requirement to not allow a vehicle to depart a site when it is overloaded.  The Overloaded Vehicle Departure events can used to warn the operators to stop the vehicle. In most of the cases the driver will have to have the excess unloaded.  Mandalay has a built-in Departure Event named "Unload Excess", for use in this scenario, which is set to an Event level of 'Stop;.  This means that the transaction process can not continue.

Note: Mandalay recommends contacting your state government for instructions on your local legal requirements.

Departure Events

Note: If a stored tare was not used for a vehicle and the Unload Excess event is used, the system will cancel the current transaction process and the vehicle will remain in the system as a vehicle waiting to leave the site. If a stored tare was used, then the transaction will be completely canceled and a new one will need to be created.

Ticket Template

The default ticket templates provided by Mandalay will include the built in Overloaded Vehicle events.

However, if the default ticket templates have been altered and are the events are needing to be added back, the below fields should be also added to both the tktEach.txt and the tktGTN.txt templates.

The information will print on the ticket as per below example:

If you require assistance amending your ticket templates, please contact our Mandalay Support Team.
